From the company’s formation to the present day our ethos has been to be the leading name in construction equipment in the UK, by delivering class leading products with national product support from our 13 depots and appointed sub-dealer in Ireland. Having originally traded under the names Beazer Plant Sales and BM Plant between 1972 and 1993, the company became HM Plant in 1993 before becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi Construction Machinery Europe in 2007 and eventually changing our name to Hitachi Construction Machinery UK in 2014. HCMUK headquarters were relocated from Somerset to a purpose-built seven-acre site at Hebburn, South Tyneside. This enabled easier and cost-effective importation of machines via the North Sea from Amsterdam, Oosterhout and Japan. Our HQ is a statement for the values and work ethics that has made Hitachi Construction Machinery synonymous within the construction, quarry and mining industries.

HCMUK are making a commitment to a long term strategy that makes Health and Wellbeing everyone’s responsibility, it is supported by four key objectives.
The workplace has potential to be an ideal opportunity to promote healthy living and empower individuals to take responsibility for their own health and wellbeing.
This strategy will be overseen by a Health and Wellbeing Committee with key stakeholders ensuring annual investment, funds and resources are made available to support our objectives.
Improve Employee Awareness
Good health is about the mind as well as the body. Feeling physically fit and good about ourselves means that we can achieve more of the things we want to do in life.
People with mental health problems say that the social stigma attached to mental ill health and the discrimination they experience can make their difficulties worse and make it harder to recover.
Improved psychological and physical wellbeing can result in a reduction in workplace stress and associated absence, as well as more positive feelings about work. Happier staff are also likely to offer better customer experiences.
By breaking down barriers surrounding wellbeing stigma we will empower employees to promote their own wellbeing as well as the wellbeing of those around them.
Promote Prevention and Early Action
Mental health problems are common. They affect thousands of people in the UK, and their friends, families, work colleagues and society in general.
It is estimated that 1 in 6 people in the past week experienced a common mental health problem.
Feelings of wellbeing are fundamental to the overall health of an individual, enabling them to successfully overcome difficulties and achieve what they want out of life.
Promoting wellbeing can help prevent stress and create positive working environments where individuals and organisations can thrive. Good health and wellbeing can be a core enabler of employee engagement and organisational performance.
Engage with Health and Wellbeing Initiatives
Employee engagement is the emotional commitment the employee has to the organisation and its goals. This emotional commitment means engaged employees actually care about their work and their company. They don’t work just for money, or for the next promotion, but work on behalf of the organisation’s goals.
We want our staff to know that they are appreciated and valued, creating a great place to work where employees and the company can align their purpose and contribute to our shared future and success.
With increased employee engagement we can create a happier and healthier place to work by encouraging a safe working environment where every voice is heard and valued. The company can encourage the development of innovative teams and every employee can feel secure sharing their ideas of how we can improve the way we work, no matter how small.
Support Employee Wellbeing with Effective Systems
Supporting employees effectively is about helping them to find ways to recover during challenging times, helping them to stay well, and ensuring that the workplace is a safe and pleasant place to be. If employees enjoy good mental and physical health they can:
make the most of their potential
cope with challenging times in their lives
play a part in their relationships, workplace and community
