HANSON INVEST IN TWO NEW HITACHI ZX890LCR-6’s

Tuesday, June 25, 2019

Hanson Aggregates have recently added two brand new Hitachi ZX890LCR-6’s to their fleet at Shap Beck Quarry in Cumbria and Chipping Sodbury Quarry in South Gloucestershire. These two machines were part of a package of 16 awarded to HCMUK following a successful tender process in 2018, which also includes four ZX690LCR-6s and several wheel loaders.

After a 90-tonne Hitachi machine was moved from one Hanson quarry over to Chipping Sodbury for a trial, the team quickly chose to invest in a brand new one for the operations at that site. At Shap, their 2007 Hitachi ZX870LCR-3 had reached a whopping 23,000 hours on the clock, so the Hanson team also decided it was time to replace the trusty ZX870 with the latest model from this weight class – the ZX890LCR-6.

Hanson UK is a leading supplier of heavy building materials to the construction industry. In particular, Shap Beck quarry and Chipping Sodbury quarry produce limestone aggregate, some of which is used in the large scale production of lime for steelmaking.

Gary Morgan of Hanson UK commented, “These excavators will provide improvements in reliability and their procurement reflects our on-going investment in plant and machinery to enhance efficiency“.

Mark Turnham, Director of Mines & Quarries at HCMUK commented “We are once again delighted that Hanson have chosen to purchase Hitachi equipment for use in their quarries across the UK, since the first machines were delivered back in 2007 Hitachi has forged a close relationship with Hanson built upon the productivity and reliability of our product.“
