Hitachi KTM Becomes Most Successful British Motocross Team in History

Thursday, August 31, 2017

After its latest win, the Hitachi KTM motocross team sponsored by Hitachi Construction Machinery UK has become the most successful British team in history, winning its 11th championship since being founded in 2008.

On the 31st of July, Hitachi KTM rider Ben Watson triumphed at the Maxxis British Motocross championships at Preston Docks. This win came as a delight for Ben, who had been out of the sport for a considerable period whilst recovering from a broken foot. It also marked the team’s 11th championship win between 2008 and 2017, which is the most wins for any team in British motocross history.

Ben’s win took place on a day where the weather was kind to the riders and allowed some fantastic racing on an excellent track. He took the win in the first MX2 race and second place in the follow-up, but has now accumulated a staggering 53 point lead across the championship, meaning that even when he races again at the end of August, he cannot be beaten by rivals and is already overall champion.

Hitachi KTM now holds the title of the most successful British team in motocross history, which owner Roger Magee is enthused by: “This win means we’ve now won 11 British Motocross Championships since 2008 – meaning we’re the most successful British Championship team ever! Hitachi Construction Machinery UK CEO, John Jones is equally delighted: “These results represent excellent value to us as the sponsor, and we look forward to continuing this fantastic relationship in the future.

Commenting on his place as 2017 British Champion, Ben Watson was thankful to his supporters: “I must say a big thank you to Hitachi KTM, Red Bull and the Contract Furniture Group – and all those who stood behind me and had faith in me after spending most of last year being out of racing with a broken foot.”
