On a glorious autumnal afternoon at Farleigh Castle, Somerset, it was a case of déjà vu as Elliott Banks-Browne secured back-to-back Maxxis British Motocross Championships (MX2) for the HM Plant KTM UK team.
In a nail-biting, intense season-finale, all eyes were on Elliott, as the HM Plant KTM started the final championship round with only one rider, after Ben Watson suffered a fractured collarbone in the practice sessions.
Starting the day as reigning champion and series leader, Elliott and his HM Plant KTM UK team knew that finishing in the points in the first two races would be enough to secure the title… and Banks didn’t disappoint; winning the 1st race and taking the maximum 25 points, followed by two 2nd places in races 2 and 3. Overall, Elliott and HM Plant KTM UK won the 8th and final round and took home 69 points and the championship.
It capped a truly magnificent season for Elliott and the team and resulted in him winning the championship by 41 points.
A delighted HM Plant KTM UK Team Manager, Roger Magee said: “It’s always nice to win the British championship back-to-back with the same rider; it shows that we’ve put the effort in and Elliott has had his just rewards today.”
Ultra competitive Elliott Banks-Browne said “Today was alright! In the last race I was hoping to pass Martin on the last lap, I passed Nev and felt faster than the boys in the front, but unfortunately I left it a bit too late. But I’ve won the overall and the championship, so I’m happy, I’m pumped.”
For HM Plant CEO, John Jones, he was delighted to see further success in the world of motorsport, and see another HM Plant sponsored team win another title and said “We are very particular about which teams we look to sponsor, as there has to be synergy with both parties. Elliott and the HM Plant KTM UK team offer exactly that – success, dedication to be the best, and always leading from the front. We are absolutely thrilled and delighted by their back-to-back championships which demonstrate sustained success.”
